Frequently Asked Questions
If you have questions about Forest Therapy or my sessions, you'll likely find answers here. If you don't see what you're looking for, please get in touch – I'm always happy to help.
What is Forest Therapy?
Forest Therapy, also known as Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing, is a gentle, guided practice of spending mindful time in nature. It's not hiking or exercise – it's about slowing down, engaging your senses, and simply being present with the natural world. Research shows it can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve mood, and support overall wellbeing.
Do I need any experience?
Not at all! Forest Therapy is for everyone, regardless of fitness level or experience with nature. You don't need to know anything about trees, plants, or wildlife. You just need to be willing to slow down and be present.
What happens in a session?
We gather, I'll introduce the session and what to expect, then we move slowly through the woodland or natural space together. I'll offer a series of gentle invitations that help you notice and connect with what's around you – the sounds, smells, textures, and sights of nature. We finish with a tea ceremony and time to reflect. Sessions typically last 2-3 hours, but we cover very little distance.
What should I wear?
Dress for the weather in comfortable layers. Wear sturdy, waterproof footwear suitable for woodland paths (wellies or walking boots are ideal). Bring waterproofs if rain is forecast. There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing!
What should I bring?
Just yourself and an open mind. I provide everything else, including the tea ceremony. You might want to bring water and any personal items you need (medication, etc.). A small backpack is useful for layers as you warm up.
What if it rains?
Sessions run in all weathers unless it's unsafe (high winds, storms, extreme conditions). Rain can actually make the forest come alive in beautiful ways. Just dress appropriately and trust that nature has something to offer in every season and weather.
Is it accessible?
I choose locations carefully and can discuss accessibility needs with you before booking. While we walk on woodland paths, we move very slowly and cover minimal distance. If you have specific mobility, sensory, or other access needs, please let me know so I can ensure the session works for you.
Can I bring my phone?
I encourage you to switch your phone to silent or airplane mode and put it away for the duration of the session. This is your time to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the natural one. However, if you need your phone for medical or caring responsibilities, that's absolutely fine.
Are sessions suitable for people with anxiety or trauma?
Yes. My sessions are trauma-informed and designed to be gentle, safe, and non-threatening. You're always in control of your own experience – you can engage as much or as little as feels comfortable. There's no pressure to share, perform, or do anything that doesn't feel right for you.
I'm neurodivergent – will I be comfortable?
Absolutely. My sessions are neurodivergent-affirming. There are no forced social interactions, no eye contact requirements, and stimming is completely welcome. The structure is clear but flexible, and you can participate in whatever way feels right for you. Many neurodivergent people find nature deeply regulating and these sessions offer that without neurotypical social demands.
What's the difference between group and one-to-one sessions?
Group sessions offer the warmth of shared experience and connection with others, while one-to-one sessions provide completely personalised attention tailored to your specific needs and pace. Both are equally powerful – it depends on what feels right for you.
How do I book?
Get in touch via the contact page and let me know which type of session you're interested in. We can discuss dates, locations, and any questions or needs you have before booking.
What's your cancellation policy?
Life happens, and I understand that. Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. We can discuss specific terms when you book.
Do you work with organisations and charities?
Yes! I'm passionate about making Forest Therapy accessible to those who need it most. I work with women's charities, healthcare providers, and organisations. I'm also available for corporate workplace wellness sessions. Get in touch to discuss how we might work together.
Are you insured?
Yes, I hold full public liability insurance and outdoor first aid certification.
I have another question...
